Top Backpacking Destinations

Top Backpacking Destinations

Are you planning a backpacking trip? Or are you just someone who loves adventure and travel? Either way we’re telling you our top 13 favourite places around the world for backpacking.

Our Top 3

Thailand

First on our list is Thailand, which is known for being the number one place to backpack. For this trip we suggest you pack light, don’t weigh yourself down with too much stuff. Use hostels, they’re the best for saving money and meeting new people - which is great for solo travellers who might not feel 100% confident.

If money saving is a big thing for you, we suggest you visit between May and October (the wet seasons) and whilst you’re there embrace and use the public transport also known as Tuk Tuks. Though, be careful. Some riders might try and screw you over price wise so always agree on a set price before you ride. With all of that in mind, just be respectful to everyone there and know the etiquette.

Chile

Second on our list is Chile. If you’re trying to choose between backpacking through Chile, Europe, or North America - Chile has some of the best views and adventures for around the same price as Europe/North America.

Australia

Next on our list is the East Coast of Australia, known as one of the most iconic places to backpack - has a lot of places and areas to explore. We recommend backpacking through places such as; Melbourne, Sydney and Byron Bay.

If you’re looking to do the full East Coast experience we recommend you do it in 4-6 weeks for the best experience but if you’re short on time it can easily be done in 2 weeks.

10 More Places!

Argentina

Argentina is most definitely far cheaper than most places, which can make your trip quite affordable. Buenos Aires is a great city for backpackers, filled with hostels and budget travellers - you’ll always meet like minded people!

If you’re travelling alone we’re going to be honest…it can be quite daunting because it’s such a huge place, But don’t let that stop you!

New Zealand

If you’re looking at backpacking through New Zealand we recommend you start in Auckland and make your way from there.

There are many hiking loops to walk and really cool caves to explore so you’ll never run out of things to do! We recommend visiting between December and March as these are the best months and you’ll be able to experience everything at its peak.

Scandinavia

One of the most beautiful places to visit is Scandinavia, though it can be extremely expensive.

The majority of camping is free, or you can camp in public areas which can be extremely good and if you find a place where you love but its private land, just ask for permission from the land owner and the majority of the time they’ll let you camp on the land!

Vietnam

Vietnam is perfect for all you travellers who love visiting places at a low cost. Even though it is one of the most popular backpacking destinations in Asia, it is easily accessible and affordable.

Some of the best places to visit are: Sapa, Ha Long Bay, Ninh Binh, Phong Nha, Nha Trang and DaLat.

Greece

Greece is one of the safest places to travel, especially if you’re travelling solo.

Greek islands such as Santorini and Mykonos are expensive but, if you’re backpacking you won’t be spending a lot of money out there.

Budapest

Filled with lots of budget friendly accommodation, cheap food and gorgeous views Budapest is a must visit! Though, if you’re someone who’s looking for a “real feel” for hungarian culture you should travel around Budapest then around it.

India

India is a dream destination for backpackers, with lots of low budget backpacker hotels, you’ll always feel welcome! We recommend you visit: Hampi, Rishikesh, Pushkar and Varanasi.

Italy

Last on our list is Italy. With the best hiking trails (Aosta Valley, Monte Rosa, Monte Bianco and Valtellina) the best times to visit are either Late Spring (April-June) or Early Fall (September-October).
